As freelance translators how do we get reimbursed for our business expenses like hardware, software, and technical support to keep our computers running, and to be utmost protected from cyber-attacks? Also, all the costs of the various subscriptions, and CPD courses we take to better ourselves? Is this done when we file our taxes, or can we ask for some kind of weekly payment ( which would be the annual cost divided into 12 for the monthly and then divided into 4 for the weekly cost) in addition to what we charge per word for the translations? Thank you both for doing this video! You are the experts! I wonder why nobody is asking that kind of questions 🤔

When an Agency grants you access to work under their <Trados> license do they normally train you or do I have to train myself on the go? I need some advice on that. Also, how can I determine my rates if I never used <Trados>, and I don't know how fast I can translate? Should I ask for the same price per word I have in mind when working with <Word for Microsoft 365>, or the Agency would not accept my quote?

Howdy Adrian and Robert! Can you discuss at what point the freelance translators should be signing the NDA, and what should we be concerned about? How can we ensure we meet all the confidentiality requirements? Have you both done videos on this topic? I can not recall watching old videos on what the procedures are when signing an NDA. When you are asked to sign an NDA is this a good sign, or could it be a trap for the translator? What should the Freelancers look out for?

Translator here. They take only wirh 3/5 years job experience not less. They pay too poor. Go into interpreting. I ended up teaching for 5 years now. Its frustrating i wish I had studied teacher from the start, and not to forget too much competition in common languages like German English

RUclips is really hard work. It is far more rewarding to have a channel about funny stuff or ASMR than doing videos that have a learning value, and the algorithm does not push them unless you're prolific. Smart move, I hope folks will get the membership. So you know, if I ever cross the subscriber thresholds, membership is something I would definitely consider for my audience for full over 60 minutes courses. All the best! 😊

AI translations suck. They're great tools for a literal translation like translating a Steven King novel, but for technical words, for a specific profession like the law or slangs, that Mexican cartel lingo used by Cartel members or criminal street language used by criminals, then AI translation is the worst tool. You need human interpreters and translators in courtrooms, not bots.

I'm new on this... I translate from Japanese to Spanish and I find it very difficult to know if someone is gonna scam me. So this saves my life

In my opinion, although translation machines like Google Translate, Immersive Translate and so on have been improved with the development of science and technology, AI cannot replace human translators forever

Why are you repeating the same sentence over and over again? To me, that would look like a scam or like you are a bot - no wonder that she did not deliver...

I'm not Italian but honestly, I did not think that the rate was too high if you want some kind of service but that is up to the client and how important the text is... For me, that rate would be barely worth it unless it is really easy work...

Wonderful legacy! Many of the pieces of advice you generously shared with us apply to freelancing in general, so even graphic designers, painters, editors, and even writers and programmers can learn from them. I would suggest that you outsource what you hate doing; however, as you mentioned, this kind of content is clearly not profitable, i.e. it doesn't even pay for it self. Furthermore, time is the most valuable thing we humans have. I am sure you can spend that time on doing things that really fulfill you. It's nice that you took the time to make this last video. I think this shows respect to those of us who saw you grow over the years. This channel is and will be very successful as long as the videos are not removed. Let them work for you in the background. Each video tells an untold story about you: the way you set it up, the way the issue at hand popped up, the things that happened the day of recording which you had to ignore, etc. I hope you know that your videos have been and will be helpful to anyone who is willing to learn, which was your target audience to begin with. Hello Robert, very interesting video: i am just starting out in the profession so my opinion will probably be a little naive, due to my inexperience. But i am also a native italian speaker, so i got curious and i decided to throw my two cents. Personally i would pick the second translation over the first: while there's some little details i would correct ("look at" instead of "view" for example), it shows that the translator did some research on the correct names, like "south Tyrol Archaeological museum" and Italian Austrian Alps, which the first translation doesn't have. Both are loyal to the original. Which did you decide for?

I don't think there's reason to be wary of clicking on attachments. To begin with, you can see the file format right there, and most premium mail services have a built-in antivirus. If an attached file ends in .pdf, then it's undoubtedly just a pdf file.
